Asa Bantan: the Bouyon Boss

Asa Bantan, whose real name is Asa Edwards, is one of the central figures of modern bouyon. Originally from Grand Bay, in Dominica, he carries the nicknames of Bouyon Boss and King of Bouyon.

The boss of Dominican bouyon

Asa Bantan embodies bouyon in its most direct version: the energy of carnival, the voice that commands the crowd, and tracks designed for Dominica’s fetes. His track Life Nice is one of the songs Bouyon Shattaz uses to explain bouyon to a new audience.

A pillar of carnival

Present at the heart of Mas Domnik and the island’s events, Asa Bantan connects the generation of the founding groups to the current scene. He is also associated with the Breakfast Fete, the morning event that has become a symbol of Dominican fete culture.
