Bouyon riddim: one rhythm, a thousand voices

In bouyon as in dancehall, the riddim is the instrumental rhythm over which several artists can lay their voice. The bouyon riddim is the backbone of the genre’s modern production.

Riddim culture

A producer releases a riddim, the artists seize it, the audience picks its favorite versions. Bouyon riddims often carry a name, like Denmath’s Tropical Riddim and Harley Riddim, and become trademarks. It is a creative system that came from Jamaica and that Dominica made its own.

Why riddims make the hits

Because a good riddim concentrates the identity of the moment: a tempo, a loop, a dance energy. The riddim snippets that producers dance to on social media have become the first launch step of a bouyon track.
