RnBouyon: the R&B side of bouyon
Published October 20, 2026
RnBouyon is the name given to the fusion of bouyon and R&B: Dominica's party rhythm carried by sung voices, soft melodies and urban production. The term is recent and its spelling is precise: RnBouyon, one word. This page explains where it comes from, who carries it, and why Bouyon Shattaz reads it as an heir of reketeng.
Spelling first: RnBouyon, and no other way
In the sources that matter, the term is spelled one single way: RnBouyon. That is Deezer's spelling, used in February 2026 to present singer Fallon in its Deezer Next 2026 programme: a fusion of R&B and bouyon called 'RnBouyon', balancing softness and energy. It is also the spelling in the French Wikipedia list of bouyon derived genres, and in the 'RnBouyon Instrumental' chapter of Smokiller's Bouyon Music 2026 mix for Bouyon Shattaz.
The variants R&Bouyon, Rn'Bouyon or RNBouyon are attested nowhere in the sources consulted. One type-beat seller separately uses 'RnB Bouyon' as a YouTube beat category: a producer and SEO usage, not the attested name of the style. This site therefore keeps RnBouyon, the spelling of the artists and the platforms.
The sound: R&B softness on the bouyon engine
RnBouyon keeps the bouyon engine, its programmed percussion and electronic bass, but changes the vocal war: the chanted carnival delivery gives way to melodic singing, close to contemporary R&B and urban pop. Deezer sums the formula up as a balance of softness and energy, and presents Fallon's work as a blend of her Caribbean heritage with a modern twist.
That position makes RnBouyon the most radio-friendly and most sung side of current bouyon. Where party bouyon hunts the hook a whole crowd chants back, RnBouyon hunts the melody that stays after the party. Both sides share the same machines and the same island of origin: the treatment of voice and melody is what separates them.
Fallon and Smokiller: the two documented names
The name attached to the term is Fallon, the artist spotlighted by the Deezer Next 2026 programme, with two tracks Deezer names as already showing her identity: 'Normal' and 'Memories'. Public sources give neither her exact island of origin nor the tracks' release years: this site will not invent them, and her coverage will grow when solid sources appear.
On the Dominica side, Smokiller uses the term as a production label: an 'RnBouyon Instrumental' chapter appears in his Bouyon Music 2026 Mix Vol. 1 for Bouyon Shattaz, and his smokiller.com hub files RnBouyon among his instrumentals, alongside his flips of American R&B records such as Bryson Tiller's. For him, RnBouyon is not a slogan: it is the name of a method, applying the bouyon machinery to R&B songs.
An heir of reketeng: this site's position
Bouyon Shattaz states it plainly: RnBouyon is an heir of reketeng. The lineage is technical before it is marketing. Rekenteng, born in Dominica in bouyon-muffin's wake, installed the method: take existing recordings, dancehall, hip hop, later R&B, strip them down and rebuild them over bouyon instrumentals, with sampled melodies, programmed percussion and electronic bass. Wikipedia, in both its English and French versions, reads it the same way: the 2020s labels reuse the techniques of reketeng recordings.
RnBouyon applies exactly that method to today's R&B repertoire. That the term is young and carried by few artists does not change the genealogy: the production gestures come from Roseau and the reketeng years, not from a marketing office. Defending that credit is why this site documents RnBouyon now, with its sources, instead of leaving it to be narrated elsewhere.
